Insurance companies settled over 1 million claims worth PKR 542 billion in 2025

Pakistan’s insurance companies paid more than one million claims in 2025, with life and non-life insurers together disbursing PKR 542 billion, according to new data released by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

The regulator released detailed claims data for the insurance industry for the first time as part of its Insurance Industry Statistics Report 2025. The report is intended to provide greater transparency into claims settlement and give policyholders a clearer picture of the sector’s performance.

Life insurance companies paid around PKR 410 billion in claims during the year, including more than 33,000 claims related to deaths, while non-life insurers settled claims worth PKR 132 billion.

Health and accident insurance accounted for more than 720,000 claims settled by non-life insurers. Motor insurance followed with more than 282,000 claims, while insurers settled nearly 11,000 claims related to fire and property losses.

SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said making claims data public would strengthen accountability in the insurance sector. He said timely payment of claims was important for maintaining policyholders’ confidence in insurance providers.

The report also showed broader growth across the industry. Total insurance premiums increased 15% to PKR 778 billion in 2025, while the sector’s assets reached PKR 4.1 trillion.

Premium generated through digital insurance channels also increased by 71%, highlighting the growing use of technology in insurance distribution.

The SECP said the newly published claims information would help improve transparency and allow consumers and other stakeholders to better understand the performance of insurance companies.
