Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has unveiled new uniforms for its cabin crew, designed by renowned Pakistani fashion designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, popularly known as HSY, as the national carrier seeks to refresh its image under new management.

The uniforms were formally unveiled in Lahore on Thursday, October 22, and are scheduled to enter service on October 31. They will make their operational debut aboard PIA’s inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight from London to Islamabad.

According to the airline, the new collection combines Pakistani cultural heritage with contemporary fashion, while prioritising comfort, durability and ease of movement for cabin crew members working on long-haul flights.

The designs feature breathable fabrics and structured tailoring, with colours and detailing intended to reflect Pakistan’s cultural craftsmanship while maintaining a modern appearance.

HSY was selected following a competitive design showcase held in Karachi in September 2026, where 10 leading Pakistani fashion designers and fashion houses presented concepts for the airline’s new uniforms.

The participating designers included Maheen Khan, Deepak and Fahad, Generation, Ismail Farid, Munib Nawaz, Deepak Perwani, Faraz Manan, Amir Adnan, HSY and Nomi Ansari.

A jury comprising fashion industry figures and an experienced aviation professional evaluated the submissions, considering factors including innovation, quality, cultural identity and the practical requirements of airline operations.

The new collection replaces the uniforms inspired by designer Nomi Ansari, which have been part of PIA’s cabin crew identity for approximately 12 years, following their introduction in 2016.

PIA has a longstanding association with prominent fashion designers. In 1966, French designer Pierre Cardin created the airline’s iconic A-line tunic and hood, while British designer Sir Hardy Amies contributed to its uniform legacy during the 1970s.

The latest redesign comes as PIA moves forward under new management following the transfer of management control to an Arif Habib-led consortium in June 2026.

The airline’s new uniforms form part of broader efforts to modernise its onboard identity and present a refreshed image to international passengers. However, the redesign represents a change in appearance rather than a measure of operational performance or service quality.
