Three movies releasing this weekend, from Pakistani action to Tom Cruise chaos

Your weekend cinema plans just got interesting. Three very different movies releasing this weekend on the big screen: Pakistan’s Sheroes, Tom Cruise’s chaotic new film Digger, and Colleen Hoover adaptation Verity. Here’s what their trailers are telling us.

Sheroes

Three women. Three stories. Three very different battles. Sheroes brings together Ushna Shah, Kinza Hashmi and Zara Noor Abbas in an anthology that moves from the boxing ring to police action and the art world. The trailer gives each story its own visual identity, with Shah training as a boxer, Abbas taking on a police role and Hashmi caught up in a suspicious art-forgery plot.

Trailer take: It looks ambitious and packed with action. The big question is whether three separate stories can come together into one satisfying cinema experience.

Digger

Tom Cruise goes completely off-script as Digger Rockwell, an eccentric oil tycoon who believes he can save humanity after triggering a potentially catastrophic disaster. The trailer is colourful, frantic and deliberately unhinged, with Cruise surrounded by Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller and Jesse Plemons.

Trailer take: If you expected another Cruise action blockbuster, think again. This one looks darkly comic and very, very loud.

Verity

Dakota Johnson plays struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who moves into the home of bestselling author Verity Crawford, played by Anne Hathaway, to finish her books. Then she discovers a disturbing manuscript that blurs the line between confession and fiction. The trailer leans hard into secrets, attraction and psychological suspense.

Trailer take: It has exactly the kind of “wait, WHAT?” energy that makes a thriller impossible to leave halfway through.

So, what’s your pick? Grab your popcorn, pick your genre and head to the cinemas this weekend.
