Bangladesh Likely to Replace Pakistan in Asian Hockey Champions Trophy
Bangladesh could replace Pakistan in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy, scheduled for October 27 to November 5 in India, after the PHF raised security concerns.

Pakistan is likely to miss the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in India after the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) declined to send the national team over security concerns. Bangladesh is reportedly being considered as Pakistan’s replacement in the six-team tournament, with the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) expected to announce its decision on Friday.
India is scheduled to host the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy from October 27 to November 5, with matches planned in Jalandhar and Mohali.
The PHF had requested a neutral venue for the tournament or Pakistan’s matches, but Hockey India rejected the proposal, maintaining the original schedule and venues.
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani said the decision reflected the sensitive bilateral situation and security concerns between Pakistan and India. He said the safety and dignity of players and officials remained the federation’s priority.
Wani reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to hockey and said the national team remained ready to compete against all International Hockey Federation (FIH) member nations, including India. He also emphasised the need to keep sports separate from politics.
The development followed remarks by Indian Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who said Pakistan was expected to participate in the tournament. Mann stated that neighbouring countries could compete in multinational events, although bilateral series between India and Pakistan remained restricted.
India enters the competition as defending champion after winning the 2023 edition in Chennai and retaining the title in 2024 in Hulunbuir, China.
Pakistan also withdrew from the Junior World Cup hockey tournament in Tamil Nadu last year, citing heightened tensions between the two countries.
