Government decides to import HSD ahead of harvesting season
Pakistan plans to import 55,000 metric tons of diesel in October ahead of the Rabi harvesting season.

The government has decided to import 55,000 metric tons of High Speed Diesel (HSD) in October, taking into account the expected increase in HSD demand due to crop harvesting during the Rabi season.

According to oil industry sources, HSD demand in the agricultural sector increases during the October-to-December Rabi season because of crop harvesting. During the Rabi season, monthly HSD demand can reach 750,000 metric tons, while the output of local refineries is insufficient to meet demand.

According to the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), Pakistan State Oil (PSO) will import 55,000 metric tons of HSD in October to meet the increased demand.

At present, local refineries are playing their role in meeting the country's HSD requirements, while HSD imports have remained minimal since March. However, in view of the expected increase in demand during the Rabi season, the decision has now been taken to resume HSD imports.

It is worth noting that HSD demand generally increases during both the Rabi and Kharif cropping seasons.
