Verity: A Dark, Twisted Thriller That Keeps You Guessing
Verity is a dark and twisted psychological thriller starring Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett, blending mystery, disturbing secrets and psychological tension into an ending that leaves audiences questioning what was real and what was fiction.

Verity is based on a bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover with film adaptations like It Ends with Us and Regretting You. It is a dark, suspenseful, thought provoking thriller which keeps you on the edge of your seats.
In Pakistan it has been subject to censorship and has a PG rating. Still, it is recommended not to watch it with kids. It is playing in all mainstream cinemas nationwide.
Starring Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, Anne Hathaway as Verity Crawford and Josh Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford, the film centres on Lowen, a struggling writer who is offered the opportunity of a lifetime. Verity Crawford, a hugely successful author, has been left unable to continue writing after a devastating car accident. Lowen is hired to complete Verity's bestselling book series and moves into the Crawford family home in Vermont to go through Verity's extensive notes and unfinished work. What follows is a roller coaster ride!
Lowen discovers a secret manuscript with a very disturbing secret of the Crawford family. As she continues reading, she begins uncovering secrets that were never meant to be found. The more she discovers, the harder it becomes to separate fact from fiction.
Dakota does well as Lowen but it is Hathaway who shines in her role, even when in most of the scenes she is unable to communicate. Her eerie, dark and mysterious expressions are on point and makes the audience feel uncomfortable. Josh Hartnett was quite convincing at playing the doting husband and father but nothing exceptional.
The ending leaves you yearning for more as it is up to the audience to interpret what actually happened. It is gripping and makes you wonder what was fiction and what was reality. Was Verity the villain or her husband? Or maybe Lowen?
Overall, Verity is a gripping, twisted psychological thriller with strong performances, an intriguing premise and enough mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat. It may not give you all the answers you want, but perhaps that's exactly what makes it work.
Verdict: 4/5
